Install Magpie
It takes two minutes. The first time you open Magpie, macOS asks you to confirm it — follow these steps once and it opens normally from then on.
Download for Mac-
1
Drag Magpie into Applications
Open the downloaded .dmg. In the window that appears, drag the Magpie icon onto the Applications folder.
-
2
Open it once and click Done
Double-click Magpie in your Applications folder. macOS says it wasn’t opened — click Done to close the message. Don’t click the blue Move to Trash button.
-
3
Click Open Anyway in Privacy & Security
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll down to Security. Next to the message that “Magpie.app” was blocked, click Open Anyway. The button only shows for about an hour after the block; if you don’t see it, double-click Magpie again.
-
4
Confirm once more
macOS asks again whether to open it. Click Open Anyway.
-
5
Approve with Touch ID or your password
Touch the Touch ID sensor, or click Use Password… and enter your Mac password. Magpie starts and its icon appears in the menu bar.
All set!
From now on Magpie opens like any other app. Start dragging any file and the shelf appears.
Stuck somewhere? Tell us
On macOS 14 Sonoma?
There’s a shortcut: right-click Magpie in your Applications folder, choose Open, then click Open in the dialog.
Why does macOS block it?
Magpie isn’t on the Mac App Store yet and hasn’t gone through Apple’s paid notarization, so macOS asks you to confirm where it came from the first time. Magpie doesn’t collect or upload your data unless you choose to upload files to Google Drive. You only need to do this once.
