Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 18, 2026
Magpie is a macOS app that keeps files on a floating shelf. It is designed to work entirely on your Mac. This policy explains what Magpie touches and why.
Files on your shelf
Files you add stay where they are on your Mac. Magpie keeps a list of them, plus copies of any text or images you drop in, in its own folder (~/Library/Application Support/Shelf). Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to upload it.
No account, no tracking
Magpie has no account system, shows no ads and contains no analytics or tracking code. We don’t run servers that receive your data. This website doesn’t use cookies or analytics either; it only remembers your language choice in your own browser.
The one thing this website counts is downloads. To count each visitor only once, it keeps a one-way hashed code made from your IP address and a secret key. Your IP address itself is never stored, the code can’t be turned back into it, and only the total is ever shown.
Google Drive (optional)
If you sign in with Google, Magpie asks only for the drive.file permission, which lets it see and manage only the files it uploaded itself, plus your account email so it can show which account is connected.
Sign-in tokens are stored in your macOS Keychain. Files go directly from your Mac to your own Google Drive. You decide whether share links are public or private, you can delete uploads from inside Magpie, and you can revoke access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Magpie’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data from Google is used only to provide the upload and sharing features you ask for. It is never sold, used for advertising, or shared with anyone.
Permissions on your Mac
Accessibility access is used only to notice when you start dragging a file, so the shelf can appear. Magpie does not record keystrokes or read your screen. If you add watched folders, Magpie checks those folders for new files on your Mac only.
