Appears the moment you drag
No shaking, no hunting for an icon. Start dragging a file and the shelf is there. Prefer it on demand? Press ⌥⌘S, or only show it while holding a modifier key.
A file shelf for macOS
Magpie is a floating shelf for your Mac. Drop files on it while you work, then drag them wherever they need to go.
Pick up any file. The shelf slides in at the top-right of your screen.
Drop it on the shelf and let go. Your hands are free for whatever comes next.
When you’re ready, drag it from the shelf to Mail, a chat, a folder — anywhere.
Everything you need to move files around without juggling windows.
No shaking, no hunting for an icon. Start dragging a file and the shelf is there. Prefer it on demand? Press ⌥⌘S, or only show it while holding a modifier key.
Files, folders, images and snippets of text. Drop them in, or press ⌘V to paste.
Select a few items, or none, and drag the whole stack out in one go.
Quick Look with Space, compress to ZIP, resize images or convert them to PNG, JPEG or HEIC, open with any app, rename.
Watch your Screenshots or Downloads folder and new files land on the shelf by themselves.
Recent uploads stay in the menu bar, even after you clear the shelf.
Upload to your own Google Drive and the link is copied for you. Keep links private or public, open them, or delete the cloud copy later. Large files stream straight from disk.
Right-click any file or selected text and choose Services → Add to Magpie.
Removed something by accident? ⌘Z brings it back, cloud link and all.

Magpie works on your Mac, not on our servers. There are no servers.
No account and no cloud of ours. Nothing leaves your Mac unless you choose to upload it.
No analytics, no ads, no telemetry in the app. This website only counts downloads, anonymously.
Google Drive access is limited to files Magpie uploads itself, and you can revoke it at any time.
Magpie isn’t on the Mac App Store yet, so macOS asks you to confirm the first launch. Open your Applications folder, right-click Magpie, choose Open, then confirm. After that it opens normally.
So it can notice when you start dragging a file and show the shelf right then. It doesn’t read what you type or what’s on your screen. Without it, you can still open the shelf with ⌥⌘S or from the menu bar.
Macs with Apple silicon running macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
No. Google Drive is optional and only used when you choose to upload a file and get a share link.
Nowhere. Files stay where they are; the shelf just remembers them. Text and images you drop in are saved as small files in Magpie’s own folder and cleaned up when you remove them.
